My Water Garden Pond...

It all began on May 27, 2007

The beginning of an idea that came out of the earth...from my flower garden!

I needed to "downsize" my flower garden. For the past few years, keeping up with it just became burdensome...I love gardening and flowers. However, a full-time job and other responsibilities left me with less and less time to care for and enjoy gardening. The weeds were taking over!

In addition to downsizing my flower garden, my water well (located in the garden) needed updating, and I wanted to install a paved walkway. This is a view from the "back" of the rock.

Large hole where rock was removedSo, out came the excavator - digging out my 4x4 wall that contained my rather large garden for years. While digging out what would be my future walkway, and where my flowers - and the weeds - had grown undisturbed for years, a rather large rock was discovered.

Removal of the rock left a very large crater, which was filled in so that the makings of my paved walkway could be laid down on a level surface. Hard to believe the PC-40  was so strong and able, with a little prodding, to lift this rock "baby" out of the ground.

Before I knew it, it was out of the ground and placed on the green grass of my lawn.

My immediate response, "It will look great over there," pointing in the direction of a spot on my lawn. "I will make a rock garden and plant some flowers." I was SO excited.

Moving the rock to desired water pond location

So - we moved the rock. Here is a video you can watch this interesting maneuver.
It's a rather large file (38 MB).

Looking closer at the boulder, I noticed it had many indentations and thought out loud, Rock in place for water garden pond"This would make a really nice waterfall."

That was all I had to say. My water garden pond was born!

We began "picking" out smaller rocks, placing them behind and beside the boulder. They will be used as the water garden pond idea continues to grow.

We then dug a hopper for the pond, which will need some further "definition." We also plan to increase the size and shape slightly.

So far, it may not be must to look at - it is definitely a "work-in-progress!"
